Welsh Football Trust courses

Coaches are able to undertake a range of courses run by the Welsh Football Trust. Level 1 – foundation courses include: Football Leaders Award; First Aid for Football Awareness; Goalkeepers Award; Welfare & Child Protection. The club will reimburse coaches for the cost of any courses that is authorised by the club.

Send completed forms  and a cheque where appropriate to : Welsh Football Trust, Dragon Parc, National Football Development Centre, NISV, Newport, NP19 4RA    

FAW Football Leaders Award

A two day course providing a basic introduction to the organisation of football practices in a fun, safe environment with an emphasis on skill development. The course is usually run on consecutive Sundays. The Leaders Award last for 3 years and can be re-validated by taking two football workshops before the award expires. The club pays the £40 fee for theose willing to undertake a football leaders award.

Revalidation  of Football Leaders Award:

  • Attend 2 local coaching workshops that are free within three year valid period.
  • Attend Area Association Coaching Conference
  • Attend FAW C Certificate course
  • Re-attend Football Leaders course

FAW First Aid for Football Awareness

A three hour course (non-examinable) developing an awareness of first aid techniques within a football environment. The course is usually run on a mid-week evening. The club pays the £25 fee for anyone willing to undertake this course.

FAW Goalkeepers Award

A six hour cours providing a basic introduction to the organisation and delivery of goalkeeper specific activities. The course usually runs on  a Sunday and the  club pays the £30 fee for this course.

Welfare & Child Protection – A Guide to Best Practice

A three hour workshop, to support the development of good practice when working with children and vulnerable adults. The workshop will focus on identifying poor practice, recognising signs, symptoms and forms of abuse and how to react to concerns or disclosures. The course usually runs on a mid-week evening and the club pays the £25 fee for this course.

Revalidation  FAW C Certificate

  • Attend 2 Regional Conferences within 3 year valid period.
  • Attend FAW / UEFA B Licence (subject to acceptance)
  • Re-attend FAW C Certificate course

Sport Development

Monmouthshire County Council

Focus on improving sports provision for 7-11 year olds within the council area. A key aspect is Girls football development. Administers the community chest grant awards for the county on behalf of Sports Wales. For example funding coach training. Contacts:

Sport Wales

The national organisation responsible for increasing participation and improving performance in sport in Wales. Sports Wales provide grants to help fund and support specific sports development projects.
